This project is divided into two phases. The first phase, which was carried out in 2025, involved the construction of a motorised retractable canopy at Ħad-Dingli Secondary School playground. Through this canopy, the school can now organise outdoor activities during inclement weather. This also applies to Physical Education. The canopy covers an area of approximately 875 square meters.
The second phase of the project, which will be carried out during 2026, involves the installation of a new synthetic turf surface over the entire school playground.
The value of the investment in the canopy is around €2 million, while the value of the synthetic turf will be determined once the public procurement process is concluded.
This project is just part of a larger investment that FTS is carrying out, in full collaboration with the Ministry for Education and Sports. During 2025 alone, FTS invested around €1,341,535 in sports facilities in various schools.
Other projects are planned in the coming months, including the installation of new synthetic turf at Fgura Primary School, Kirkop Secondary School, Santa Luċija Secondary School, the pitch adjacent to San Ġwann Primary School, and the construction of a new ground at Giovanni Curmi Higher Secondary School in Naxxar.
