The Minister for Education and Sport, Byron Camilleri, visited works at Ħal Qormi (San Ġorġ) Primary School currently undertaken by FTS.
This project involves the comprehensive reconstruction of the school, as well as the construction of an additional receded storey on the existing building. The facades of the old school, built in the first half of the Twentieth Century, including those overlooking the central playgrounds, will be kept owing to their architectural beauty.
Minister Camilleri explained that this project is part of an ongoing investment aimed at providing students and educators with modern, high-quality schools that meet today’s educational needs. He highlighted the substantial nature of the investment in school infrastructure, noting that successive projects are designed to ensure more students benefit from an educational experience within a superior environment featuring modern facilities – including advanced technology, accessibility, and amenities such as air conditioning.
Minister Camilleri was accompanied by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry for Education and Sport, Matthew Vella, the Chairperson of the FTS, Cory Greenland, the Foundation’s CEO, Aleander Balzan, and other officials.
The tender value of this project is approximately €15.7 million.
The first phase of the project will be completed in the first quarter of 2027, while the entire project is expected to be finished during the 2027-2028 scholastic year.
