This project focused on the modernisation of the San Ġwann football ground, covering a floor area of approximately 4,500 square metres. The upgraded facility serves both the local community and the adjacent primary school, enhancing accessibility and the overall quality of sports infrastructure in the area.
This ground forms an important space for the community, especially for young people and students at the primary school, while playing a central role in improving the accessibility and overall quality of sports facilities in this area.
The ground was inaugurated by the Minister for Education and Sport, Byron Camilleri, and the Minister for Justice, Research and Innovation, Clifton Grima. The project was carried out by FTS in collaboration with both Ministries and San Ġwann Football Club.
Minister Byron Camilleri said that investment in school sports facilities is part of the effort to ensure education provides students with more opportunities for full development.
Minister Clifton Grima said that this project in San Ġwann is part of a broader vision of investment in modern infrastructure that supports an active and healthy lifestyle.
The total contractual value of the project amounted to approximately €200,000. This investment forms part of a broader programme to upgrade sports facilities managed by FTS. In 2025 alone, FTS has invested approximately €1,341,535 in sports facilities across various schools.
Further projects are planned in the coming months, including the installation of new synthetic turf or rubber flooring at Fgura Primary School, Ħad-Dingli Secondary School, Ħal Kirkop Secondary School, and Santa Luċija Secondary School. These initiatives are currently at the public procurement stage. This is in addition to the massive investment in the construction of a new ground at Giovanni Curmi Higher Secondary School in Naxxar.
