Demolition works at the old Naxxar Primary School are nearing completion. The north and east wings have now been demolished, leaving the original school façade standing.
Built in the modernist style, this historic façade is being carefully retained and incorporated into the new school out of respect for the architectural heritage of the Maltese modernist period. Throughout the demolition, excavation, and construction phases, FTS is ensuring that the façade is properly protected and preserved.
The third and final wing on the west side is currently being demolished, with particular care being taken following the discovery of an old reservoir on site.
Once completed, the new school will feature 46 classrooms, including 20 kindergarten classrooms, and will be able to accommodate approximately 1,000 pupils.
This major project is being done with an investment in excess of €21 million and is is being co-funded by the European Union. The EU funds project title is: ‘ERDF.03.280 Enhancing educational facilities in Naxxar through the construction and setting up of a new primary school’.
