Works at Ħal Qormi (San Ġorġ) Primary School have commenced. This project involves the extensive refurbishment, as well as the construction of a receded floor on the existing building. This is being done to offer modern, accessible, and comfortable educational spaces for our children and educators.
This school, which forms part of St. Ignatius College, is located in a two-storey building that was built in the first half of the Twentieth Century and is now about a hundred years old. Through the project we will make the necessary changes to make the building accessible to everyone. We will also be building a receded floor on the existing building to create a space for the administration of St. Ignatius College.
The school will have over thirty classrooms, including for kindergarten, as well as for specific subjects such as art and music. It will also have a nurture room, multi-sensory rooms, a psycho-social room, and a classroom for Personal, Social and Career Development. The school will also have a hall with a separate entrance that will be able to be used by the local community after school hours. The project also includes the redevelopment of the schoolyards, which will be covered with artificial turf and will also have spaces in the shade. The school will also have a childcare center.
The project will involve the replacement of several old roofs in the school, as well as the installation of new services, such as electricity, water, drainage, CCTV, internet connection, alarms, and fire safety services. In the building we will introduce several measures that will improve the efficiency in the use of energy.
The new school will be able to accommodate around 700 children.
This project will be carried out in phases so as to ensure that the school will remain operational throughout.
