At San Miguel Primary School, FTS is constructing an aquatic complex adjacent to the school which will house a sensory hydrotherapy and jacuzzi for students using this facility.
San Miguel provides education on a full-time basis to over 20 pupils aged from 3 to 11 years. It also provides services to around 60 pupils from state, church, and independent schools. All pupils have complex needs and the learning process has to be a sensory experience.
This school also provides early intervention to a group of babies and toddlers who have individual educational needs, as well as support to their parents. San Miguel helps learning support educators who accompany the students from mainstream schools. San Miguel is committed to the principle of inclusion and thus organises activities in which its pupils learn and have fun alongside their peers from mainstream primary schools.
During a visit, the Minister for Education and Sport, Byron Camilleri, observed the ongoing work and emphasized that the educational experience must be inclusive, noting the Ministry’s commitment to continued investment to achieve this goal.
Minister Camilleri stated that this investment is a concrete example of how inclusion in education must translate into an environment, services, and opportunities that address the diverse needs of every student.
Minister Camilleri visited the school together with the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry for Education and Sport, Matthew Vella, and the FTS leadership together with the professionals working on the project.
This project will be completed at the end of 2026 and is estimated to cost approximately €5.7 million.
