This project involves the extensive refurbishment of the existing primary school. It is intended to offer a modern, accessible, and comfortable educational spaces for our children and educators.
The Żebbuġ Primary School is housed in a one-storey building, designed by Architect Joseph Huntingford, and was inaugurated in 1958. The building is spread over approximately 2,300 square meters.
In addition to the refurbishment of the school from both the inside and outside, the project will include the redesign of the open and recreational spaces, as well as the creation of a new space for the teaching of extra-curricular subjects. Through the project we will be addressing the accessibility of the building to be in accordance with the law.
As part of the project, we will be installing new services, such as lighting, water, sewerage, security cameras, internet connection, an alarm, and fire safety services.
The school will have new furniture aimed at encouraging teaching and learning inclusion.
In the building we will also be introducing various energy efficient features.
To get the job done at a fast pace and not put children and workers at risk, until works are completed, teaching will be done in temporary classrooms on the site of the existing school. This will be done so that the pupils will continue receiving their education in the same school environment that they are used to.
The installation of the prefabricated classrooms commenced in the second quarter of 2026, with actual works on the main school building starting during the summer holidays.
This project will be done with a capital investment of approximately €4.2 million.
