The Minister for Education, Youth, Sport, Research, and Innovation, Dr Clifton Grima, as well as the Minister for European Funds and the Implementation of the Electoral Programme, Dr Stefan Zrinzo Azzopardi, visited works on the construction of a new Primary School at Naxxar.
Demolition works at the old Naxxar Primary School have been completed, leaving only the original school façades. Currently, works are focused on the excavation of the site, in particular the excavation of the site where two underground floors will be constructed.
During a site visit, Minister Clifton Grima described the initiative as part of a broader effort to transform Malta’s educational infrastructure.
The new building will span five levels, including two underground floors designated for ancillary facilities and three above ground. The design aims to respect the historic façade while incorporating modern materials to distinguish between the old and new structures.
Once completed, the school will include 46 classrooms, 20 of which will cater to kindergarten students. It will also feature specialised rooms for subjects such as art, music, drama, and a fully equipped industrial kitchen. Additional facilities will include sports amenities, recreational areas, a multi-sensory room, and a multi-purpose hall.
Minister Stefan Zrinzo Azzopardi noted that the project reflects ongoing efforts to develop sustainable and inclusive educational facilities that prepare future generations.
This major project is being done with an investment in excess of €21 million and is is being co-funded by the European Union. The EU funds project title is: ‘ERDF.03.280 Enhancing educational facilities in Naxxar through the construction and setting up of a new primary school’.
