Construction works on the sensory hydrotherapy pool complex at San Miguel Primary Education Resource Centre in Pembroke are nearing completion following the placing of roof slabs on the pool and jacuzzi area of this specialised aquatic complex.

San Miguel Primary Education Resource Centre provides education on a full-time basis to over 20 pupils aged from 3 to 11 years. It also provides services to around 60 pupils from state, church, and independent schools. All pupils have complex needs and the learning process has to be a sensory experience.

San Miguel provides early intervention to a group of babies and toddlers who have individual educational needs, as well as support to their parents. The centre also provides support to the learning support educators who accompany the students from mainstream schools. San Miguel is committed to the principle of inclusion and thus organises activities in which its pupils learn and have fun alongside their peers from mainstream primary schools.

This project involves the construction of a new building with a footprint of 557 square meters and which will be accessible both from the existing school and also from a separate entrance so as to have an independent access for use after school hours. The facilities will include a sensory-hydro-therapy pool and jacuzzi to accommodate a maximum of 16 bathers at any one time.

The project is estimated to cost approximately €5.7 million.

Mechanical and electrical works are also progressing well.
