25th Anniversary: A Quarter Century of Building the Future
The Foundation for Tomorrow’s Schools (FTS) was established by the Government of Malta in May 2001 with a clear mandate: to develop, construct, modernise, and refurbish State-owned educational institutions in accordance with the evolving needs of the education authorities. Its overarching purpose has remained consistent — transforming “today’s schools” into “tomorrow’s schools.”
In 2026, the FTS is marking its 25th Anniversary — a significant milestone in its journey of service to education in Malta and Gozo. Since its establishment in 2001, FTS has played a central role in shaping the physical and technological landscape of State education, translating national policy into tangible, high-quality learning environments.
Over the past twenty-five years, the Foundation has successfully delivered an extensive portfolio of capital projects, ranging from new school constructions to large-scale refurbishments and infrastructure modernisation initiatives. Its work has supported key educational reforms, responded to demographic changes, and embraced innovation in design, sustainability, and digital integration.
The anniversary provides an opportunity to reflect on the dedication of the professionals, technical experts, and support staff who have contributed to the Foundation’s success. It also acknowledges the strong collaboration maintained with the Ministry for Education, school leaders, contractors, regulatory authorities, and community stakeholders. Through these partnerships, FTS has consistently upheld principles of accountability, good governance, quality, and long-term value.
While celebrating the achievements of the past quarter century, the Foundation remains firmly focused on the future. Guided by national strategic objectives, including Malta’s Vision 2050, FTS continues to invest in resilient infrastructure, environmentally responsible design, and adaptable learning spaces that meet the evolving needs of students and educators.
