The St. Thomas More College Santa Luċija Secondary School now has a theatre hall and excellent sports facilities for the benefit of students, educators, and the community. These facilities were built with an investment of €4.6 million and were inaugurated on the international day dedicated to teachers, by the Minister for Education, Sport, Youth, Research, and Innovation Dr Clifton Grima.
Santa Luċija Secondary School was built in the nineties without a theatre hall and subsequently students and educators at the school had to use a venue outside the school complex whenever there was a need to use a theatre hall. Minister Grima said that “this is another direct investment in educators and students, through which we are seeing that there will be an appropriate and modern educational environment in this school and thus now these students and educators also have a theatre hall and indoor sports facilities that they can use without the need to go outside this educational complex”.
The FTS Chairperson, Dr Cory Greenland, explained the technical work done on the facilities and said that “with the work that the foundation is doing, we are making a leap forward in the educational infrastructure for the benefit of educators and students”.
The theatre has a seating capacity of approximately 450 people. Adjacent to it, FTS constructed a sports complex for multiple sports disciplines. On the roof, FTS developed a garden which increased the recreational outdoor space for students and educators. These facilities have separate entrances from the school so that they may be used by the local community outside school hours.
The project was done with an investment of approximately €4.6 million and was ready for use at the beginning of the 2023-24 scholastic year.
Present for the inauguration were the Ministry’s Permanent Secretary Mr Matthew Vella, the FTS Chairperson Dr Cory Greenland, the FTS Chief Executive Officer Dr Neville Young, the Principal of St. Thomas More College Mr George Psaila, the Head of School Mr Christopher Higgans, and the Mayor of Santa Luċija Ms. Charmaine St. John.
